Mali's art history includes the terracotta figures of the Inland Niger Delta around Djenné, the sculpture of the Dogon and Bamana, and textiles such as bògòlanfini, the mud-dyed cloth of the Bamana that women like Nakunte Diarra raised to a fine art. The great mud mosques of Djenné and Timbuktu are among Africa's most famous buildings.

In the twentieth century Bamako became a capital of photography. Seydou Keïta made elegant studio portraits of the city's people in the 1950s, and Malick Sidibé photographed its nightlife and youth after independence; Adama Kouyaté and Hamidou Maiga worked in the same studio tradition. Since 1994 the Rencontres de Bamako biennale has made the city a meeting place for African photographers, and Fatoumata Diabaté continues the story. The textile artist Abdoulaye Konaté makes monumental hangings about politics and the environment. These are Mali's artists with Wikipedia articles, most looked-up first.
